Beating Bill Simmons 2009: Wild Card Playoffs

Ok. Let's get the regular season recap out of the way. Both Simmons and I went 10-6 last week, so he ended up beating me by three games during the regular season, 133-116-5 to 130-120-5.

But we have a new season ahead of us.

PLAYOFFS!

And not to toot my own horn, but HONK HONK MOFOS!

Last year, I beat Simmons 7-4 to 4-7. I was the only one of us to pick the Super Bowl spread correctly. The year before that, I went 8-2-1.

I went 15-6-1 over the past two postseasons, which is a .705 winning percentage. Hell, even the Yankees aren't that good.

And now that I've tooted my own horn, I realize I'm probably going 0-11 this postseason. Karma's a bitch.

Anyway, here are my picks for the Wild Card games (home teams in CAPS, Bill's picks in red):

Jets (+2.5) over BENGALS
The Jets will shut down Cedric Benson, putting the game in Carson Palmer's hands. Not a good place to be. The Jets will win this one outright.

COWBOYS (-4) over Eagles
I know I'm going against common sense by going with Dallas in the playoffs. But Romo's been lights out lately and their defense has been shutting people down the past few weeks. Without a decent running game, Philadelphia won't have a chance.

PATRIOTS (-3) over Ravens
New England was my preseason Super Bowl winner. I don't still believe that, but I do think they'll be able to defeat Baltimore.

Packers (PK) over CARDINALS
Green Bay just looks too damn good right now for the Cardinals to keep up.
